Our Mission
Urban Farmers vision is to produce healthy and nutritious food were it is consumed, using sustainable food production practices, and become an integral part of the local community.
By using under-utilised resources, such as the re-purposing of urban infrastructure and the re-using of readily available resources (some of which today are considered urban “waste”), Urban Farmers have set up a scalable business model that will shape the future of urban food production.
Urban Farmers are producing healthy and fresh food where it is needed, in the heart of the city and are working closely with the local community, employing local people and also supplying free fresh food to a local food bank.
In the near future Urban Farmers will also provide educational and skill building seminars for children and vulnerable adult groups.
An important objective that the founders of Urban Farmers share is the reduction of the environmental impact of current industrial farming practices by exhibiting innovative and green production procedures, some of which include:
- selecting the location of our farms according to the appropriate micro-climatic conditions required for the each specific crop.
- minimizing the transportation (food mileage), storage and refrigeration needs by producing our food were it is consumed.
- significantly reducing the energy and water requirements of our production by using innovative and energy efficient production procedures.
- eliminating the need for pesticides and fertilizers by using organic farming practices.
Urban Farmers are part of MLN, a growing European Community with businesses from 14 countries working together in developing paradigms of urban agriculture across Europe.
Urban Farmers are also cooperating with a number of universities and scientists across Europe in order to develop new innovative food production techniques.
